ECMI Modelling Week 2027

Venue

The 40th ECMI Modelling Week will take place at the University of Wuppertal, located in the green and vibrant city of Wuppertal in North Rhine-Westphalia. Combining a strong academic environment with a distinctive cultural and natural setting, Wuppertal offers an inspiring place for a week of mathematical modelling and international exchange.

The University of Wuppertal has a strong focus on mathematics and applied mathematical research. Its Department of Mathematics and Informatics brings together research groups working in areas including numerical mathematics, optimisation, approximation and stochastics, providing an excellent academic setting for the Modelling Week.

Wuppertal is best known for its iconic suspension railway, but the city also offers plenty of green spaces, cultural attractions and opportunities for outdoor activities. The surrounding Bergisches Land is particularly attractive, with its wooded hills, valleys and historic sites. During the Modelling Week, participants will have the opportunity to explore the region on an excursion to the impressive Müngstener Brücke and Schloss Burg.

Wuppertal is conveniently located in the Rhine-Ruhr region and is well connected by rail and air. Wuppertal Central Station offers regional and long-distance connections. For international participants, Düsseldorf Airport (DUS) is approximately 45 minutes away by train, while Cologne Bonn Airport (CGN) can be reached in around one hour. Frankfurt Airport (FRA) also offers a direct train connection to Wuppertal in approximately 1 hour 45 minutes.

With its strong mathematical community, beautiful surroundings and excellent connections, Wuppertal provides a great setting for an inspiring week of modelling, collaboration and exchange.
