ECMI Modelling Week

18 - 24 July 2027, Wuppertal, Germany

Welcome to Wuppertal!

The 40th ECMI Modelling Week will be held from 18–24 July 2027 at the University of Wuppertal, Germany.

Since 1988, the European Consortium for Mathematics in Industry (ECMI) has organised an annual Modelling Week for students, bringing together participants from across Europe for an intensive week of collaborative problem-solving. Working in small, multinational teams, students tackle projects inspired by real-world challenges. Each team is supported by an ECMI instructor, who presents the problem on the first day—typically in non-mathematical terms—and provides guidance throughout the week as the students develop and refine their solutions.

At the end of the week, the teams present their findings to the other participants before documenting their work in a written report. The Modelling Week provides students with practical experience in mathematical modelling while also strengthening their ability to collaborate, communicate and work effectively across national and cultural boundaries.

Participation in a Modelling Week is an integral component of the ECMI Certificate and of many Master's programmes offered by ECMI centres. At the same time, the event is open to many other students who wish to develop their modelling, problem-solving and teamwork skills through this distinctive international experience.

Modelling Week 2026 is a mandatory part of the MATHS DISC program.

A number of similar Modelling Weeks or Modelling Camps are organized by ECMI members each year.
